American Hip Hop legends, Public Enemy will play live in London at Electric Brixton on Saturday 7th June and tickets for the highly anticipated gig go on sale at 10am this morning.
Public Enemy released their debut album Yo! Bum Rush The Show back in 1987 and followed it straight up with their breakthrough record It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back in the summer of 1988.
Their politically charged lyrics were an innovation in Hip Hop that made them a worldwide phenomenon and won them a global fanbase.
The band first played in Brixton (at the Academy) back in the winter of 1987. Check out the rambling review by Simon Reynolds for Melody Maker below in which he calls their music ‘an unbearable din’.
The world it seems, didn’t agree with Simon Reynolds and more than 25 years later, Public Enemy have had five Grammy Award nominations and have been inducted in to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
